[samsho5] Kazuki's Saien

Like in the previous game, Kazuki can store up to three fireballs for later use on either the Shounetsu Kon, Dai Bakusatsu, or Homura Gaeshi. This cheat allows you to have three stored all the time. For those of you who need further explanation, the Shounetsu Kon and Dai Bakusatsu are moves that hav...

[samsho5] Shizumaru's Kyouraku Zan

Among one of the moves in Shizumaru's moveset is the Kyouraku Zan, which is a move performed by holding the D button down (there are also minor complications as holding the D button down is also the meditation move). There are four levels of this move, differing by the length of time the button is t...

[samsho5] Mina's Sungan no Sasoi

Mina's Sungan no Sasoi in the game (rdp+A) will shoot an arrow into the sky, which you can fire onto your opponent from above with the Sungan no Mukae (rdp+B). Up to three arrows can be fired in this manner. With this cheat, you will always have three arrows in the sky, rendering the Sungan no Sasoi...

[samsho5] Tokugawa's secret move

As you know, Tokugawa (the board's censor software still prevents me from posting the first name in full, if you know what I mean) has six special moves, and if you connect with all six (without being counter hit yourself), you unlock a seventh move that you can perform for the rest of the round (th...

Check out my (slightly outdated) Move List Cheat collection - a collection so large it would, at one point, double the size of Pugsy's latest cheat file if all were added. Link is in my signature. MLCs take a lot of time searching, and its feasibility boils down to whether step-by-step framing does ...

I haven't touched MAME32 in over 50 versions (as I don't have a Win32 PC), those might just be out of date. But essentially it should be the same as in other versions: get cheat.dat, place in your MAME directory (or in MacMAME, ~/Documents/MacMAME User Data/Misc Support Files), and from the frontend...

Key prebinding is part of the 32-bit cheat file since v.68 I believe (it could have been v.60, but I'm not sure). To find out more, please consult my (somewhat outdated) guide to the cheat engine, which can be found in my signature. Also of reference is a post where I answer a similar question: http...

Mortal Kombat, being a Williams hardware game, has frustrated many a cheat finder - virtually all of the (significant) cheats for the Mortal Kombat series are rom hacks, and thus the reason that these may break that I can think of is a complete overhaul on the emulation itself. From what I understan...

One more note: Relative address cheats are also limited to standard writes with an implicit 0xFFFFFFFF mask (older versions of MAME will have the offset amount also be used as a write mask - a bug that was addressed some time ago) - you cannot use add/subtract or force range cheats with the 32-bit c...

The problem is that what you have is not a key prebinding cheat - it is a standard one-shot write cheat, that writes 0xFF to address 0x04E0. This is just, simply put, the code that makes the cheat function. It does not contain any key prebinding data. To prebind, you need a separate cheat code. As o...

Pointer searches, or as we say here, "relative address cheats", are types of cheats that, while they do not involve rom hacking, they are stored in different places every time. Thus, conventional search and poke methods would fail, as we have no assurance of the cheat working consistently....

Back in the saddle again...

Well, after what seems to be a long inactive period (real life and Wikipedia seems to be a good combo), and roughly 20-odd versions of MAME later, I'm back in the game. First things first to address is that there is still a LOT of unofficial cheat file forks out there, and it would make sense if the...

I doubt it, as they are games on more complicated hardware, and/or store their data in an unorthodox data (that's why I've been largely unsuccessful in KOF MLCs as well).

This question has been asked numerous times, and the answer is that there is a slightly increased overhead if the cheat file were to be split up. Load times will not differ drastically (as Ian pointed, the difference is faster than average human reaction time), but separate files will create an incr...
