Tekken 2 - Character code trigger

This FORUM is ONLY for posting requests for M.A.M.E. arcade cheats. The actual cheats should be posted in the M.A.M.E. "Arcade" Cheats forum. For cheat requests a 'please' would do no harm...

Tekken 2 - Character code trigger

Post by Heihachi_73 »

On the character select screen, the game flashes LEARN THE SECRET CODES!, however, not all of these codes have been documented, even as of 2010.

An example of a button code is, insert some credits into the machine to make it playable and get it to the title screen, then enter a certain code, and this will automatically select a character.

Example 1 - Ganryu: Place the cursor over Michelle, then press Start, Down then Up.
Example 2 - Bruce: Place the cursor over Lei, then press Start, Start, Start, Start then Right.
Example 3 - Armor King: Place the cursor over King, then press Left, hold the Start button down, press Left, Right, release the Start button, then press Right.
Example 4 - Kuma: Hold Right Punch (P1 Button 2 in MAMEspeak) down for the duration of this cheat. RP must be held before entering the character select screen. Press Start to get to the character select, then place the cursor over Paul and press Down, Start then Down. It's safe to release the button after the character comes up.

There are many more, but for simplicity's sake they aren't added here (the other cheat codes can be found in history.dat among others).

This request isn't for cheats to select the characters (as already done), but for people with real machines so they can select the hidden characters. The two most elusive cheats are for selecting Lee and Devil (and/or Angel, but I doubt they made one). Basically, I'm looking for how to find and decode the cheats/strings straight from the game's ROM code, not for actually selecting them in MAME.

Basically, if someone can find (pardon the pseudocode) "if cursor=Michelle, look for 'Start' input" etc., and then decoding what it finds to the above 'Start, Down, Up or whatever the cheats are per character. Lee will most likely be selected by starting on Heihachi, but finding the button code is needed here. Unless of course, they simply didn't program one, but then it will still be worth documenting the others.

Bump. Did anyone ever have the time to look through the program code for these triggers? The code itself remains in a way similar to the 113-840 Ultimate Kombat Kode in MK Trilogy on the Nintendo 64, in that it has never been documented on the internet.

It also seems that the older codes disappeared upon conversion to XML. There used to be codes to change the camera, as well as changing the fighters' control to either human or CPU etc.
