MAME32 - Cheap menu option not worling

Post by miket »

I have read the FAQs many many times yet I cannot get cheats to work.

I am using mame32.126u4. I have selected the "cheats enabled" in the dafault properties menu. I have looked in the INI file to make sure that cheats is set to 1.
I have put my cheat.dat file in the same directory as the mame.exe file. I have the file set in the "Directories" menu as I do all the other file locations.

Two things I noticed:

1. The menu for Cheats doesn't work. The History one does though.

2. When in a game I hit TAB and nothing but the regular menu appears.
no Cheat option.

Is this version not working or am I missing something.

Thanks

cheat.dat no longer works with MAME after 0.126, and it doesn't work very well with 0.125u2 onwards unless you recompile it with the cheat engine before it got hacked about with.

To use cheats with 0.126u4 you will need a zip file containing 7000+ xml files - and that doesn't exist anywhere at the moment apart from my hard drive. I'm still working on the converter from cheat.dat, I have a lot of issues to iron out with cheat.dat and the converter before there will be a release (and there will be a lot of issues no doubt when it does get released - will need a lot of testers).

MAME32 0.125

Post by miket »

I've looked all day now and can't find MAME32 0.125 (pre-u2) and can't find it anywhere.

Anyone have a link for it?

Thanks

mameuifx 0.126a may possibly have the old cheat engine (I don't know)?

mameuifx 0.126a *does* have the old engine. It doesn't work in 0.126u3 (its selectable in the options, but doesn't show up in the menu).

Thanks for confirming that mameuifx 0.126a uses the old cheat engine.

It's impossible to add the old cheat engine to mame releases after 0.126 - menu changes and cpus now being tagged rather than numbered has seen off the possibility.

THe cheat engine is there in u3 but it's the new cheat engine and it will only have the cheat option if it finds some xml files. If you make a cheat folder and make some xml files containing the contents of my earlier post in this forum and name them accordingly it's possible to use the new cheat engine for enabling cheats in those xml files.
