When looking for cheats in some cases, I usually find I have about 2000+ matches.

However, in the View Results screen I can only see a limited number of these.

Is there anyway to extract the results to a Text file, so that I can load them into Excel and examine them in more detail?

Thanks for any help,
Steve.

Due to limitations created by the MAME menuing system, not in the current version of the cheat engine. I've rewritten the results viewer for the new version, making it possible to display all the results found. However, right now the new version isn't optimized very much, so I can't currently reccomend it for widespread use (mainly because the UI isn't done + I haven't bugchecked it lots.)

If you are in a compiling sort of mood, you can download the new version from http://cheatfinder.hoops.ne.jp/~ian/cheat_new.zip. Use PageUp/PageDown to scroll through the list, and use Shift-PageUp/PageDown to change between memory regions.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you consider the extract Search Results to a text file idea as a valid possible future enhancement?

I don't know what Ian thinks but I have to say I can't see any point to that. It's easy to narrow down the locations you just have to stick with it.. Looking at a bunch (2000+) of numbers in Excel isn't gonna help you narrow them down quicker than the cheat engine is able to....or maybe I'm missing something?

If the new cheat engine has an 'Add ALL results to list' option and automatically saves new cheats to the cheat file I think it will do most of what you want. But 2000+ is excessive!

My reason for wanting the text file export, is to do the following:

I'm looking for a way to select which level branch A/B (etc..) is selected in the Puzzle Bobble games, but I've no idea which value to search for (searches for +1, +2, etc... have come back with results - but none that seem to be controlling the level).

The NE result returns 2000+ records, I just wanted an easy way to keep and compare the result NE set for the "before and after" selection of a number of different level paths. I wanted to find out which memory locations are consistantly altered between different level selects and the values that they are altered to. I thought that it would be easy to do this in Excel, as you could filter Excel to only show matching memory addresses.

I hope this clearly explains what I'm trying to do. Hopefully someone will have some ideas.

Well it's a method problem more than a cheat engine or game problem - and changing the method should help. Here's some suggestions (some may not be applicable) :-

Start on the very first level a search with the value of 00 (which also checks for 01) as most first levels are either 00 or 01.

When you go up a level continue the search as an 'Energy G (Greater than)' cheat.

Don't forget during play the level will not increment so do several 'Energy E (Equal To)' to narrow the results down - and repeat on each level after the Energy G cheat.

And finally, look at the memory locations of the other cheats - the first locations to check are the locations close to the other cheats as they are the most likely candidates.

Hope that all makes some sort of sense...let me know how you get on.

Also bear in mind that some games use dynamic memory locations so it won't matter how much you search you will not find a 100% working cheat and unfortunately dynamic level cheats will be quite hard to find without a dynamic search capability and you'll still need to use the debugger!

Thanks Pugsy!

That worked, I've now found what I was after

I had no idea that seaching for a value worked in that way - I thought that search for a value was just that, see all locations that contain that value. I didn't know you could then link that to the Energy (Greater Than) continue search.
I also wasn't aware that continuing the search for Energy Greater would only bring up the Greater values if the addresses were present in the previous search - very useful!!

Oh well, I guess it serves me right for not reading the documentation correctly!

Great  You had me a bit concerned there for a minute..

The cheat engine is truely powerful, it's amazing what you can find when you put your imagination into it...and the new cheat engine types will make it even more so - the force range and dynamic cheat types will really help out in that respect. Though ROM cheats are still the best - couple them with a RAM location found with the cheat engine and a WP with the debugger doesn't half make life easy  I do like my ROM cheats.....
