Question about the cheat file...

If you are having problems finding or using cheats for an Emulator (particularly MAME/MESS) or have found a trick that you wish to share this is the place to do it. But please read the Cheat FAQ first.

Can any of you say whether the cheat file will be split up to individual games in the near future? For example, a cheat file for one game and a separate cheat file for another?

Furthermore, are there any clones that have different cheats from their parent?

There's no plans on doing this at the moment - and there is little benefit in splitting it up from my point of view. Do a dir of a directory with 3050+ small files takes time and it will take a lot more diskspace than the one file. I have written a program to split the cheat file into single game cheat.dats - I use it to reassemble the cheat file in alphabetical order. WHY do you ask?

Yes there are clones with different cheats than the parent sets - there is a clone relationship list in the cheat file.

I asked what I asked because I thought that you could, for example, download only the cheats for games that you have, that's all.

Well I doubt its illegal to download cheats for games you don't have ;p and the cheat file isn't really a huge download .. there aren't really any benefits of having it in seperate files.
