I feel like idiot for asking...

Post by dominatio »

I just downloaded MAME (regular) 0.132 and XML Cheat Collection for MAME 0.132 [ZIP FORMAT - 1481K]. I used 7z to open the MAME file and then I unzipped the Cheat file. I left the cheat file in zip format and placed it in the MAME folder:

But when I run the MAME program and run a ROM and press TAB the cheat option is not in any of the options. I kinda new to this (as I am sure you can tell). Could someone please point me in the right direction? Thank you!

That looks to be standard MAME commandline so you can enable cheats one of two ways

add -cheat to the commandline so type this to start space invaders with the cheat option enabled:-
mame -cheat invaders

or change cheat 0 to cheat 1 in the mame.ini file (this way you don't need to type in -cheat ether again). If you haven't got a mame.ini file to change, type this to make one:-
mame -cc

Open up a commandline (select Command Prompt in Program>Accesories or type 'cmd' in the Run [above the log off options in the START bar] ).

Navigate to your MAME folder by typing the drive letter followed by and using 'cd ..' to go up a level and 'cd foldername' to go down a level. Look at these pictures foe examples:-

REMEMBER this is for STANDARD commandline MAME, if you are using mameui or a similar build in frontend build this will not work as the mameui cheats checkbox takes precedence. Look here for MAMEUI http://cheat.retrogames.com/mameuitips.htm
