Where can I find cheat.dat files with new cheats?

Postby Dark Helmet » Fri Oct 07, 2005 9:55 am

As I wrote in another thread, I would do a little utility that updates cheat.dat. For this goal I need all cheat.dat that integrate new cheats or other cheats.
These are the cheat files I have found:

Mike Haggar:
http://haggar.emuunlim.com/

kelvSYC:
viewtopic.php?t=1308

ShimaPong:
viewtopic.php?t=2113

Ultimate Patchers:
http://upstephh.free.fr/

Pepinos:
Mame.gr

EmulCrash (I don't write the link because the site contains roms)

Exist other cheat.dat files that contain new cheats?

A program to integrate the cheats would be rather pointless I'm afraid. You'd have too many duplicated cheats. You can't for instance just ignore cheats that use the same address as another cheat - you can have several cheats that use the same address but have different effects...the cheat type and/or the poke value will be different. You can also have cheats that have the same address and the cheat type and/or the poke value are different but the cheat is the same!

Believe me if it was as simple as that to combine cheat files I would have done it already!

As you can get MAME to parse as many cheat files at load time as long as you can live with cheat duplication you can load as many cheat files as you like by just changing a single line in the ini file as Shimapong's done with his extended cheat file.

If you want to do this because you believe the cheat.dat updates are no more then I can say you are wasting your time... I've done a lot of work on the update already and there will be further releases. In the mean time if people want cheats for certain games they can always look/ask in these forums or use mame.ini file to parse as many cheat files as they want.

In fact I think to compare all 4 hex numbers. If all are identical, I remove the clone.

I think the utility could be useful also for you, because I am intended to implement a simple way to update old mame rom names.

Wayder's being doing cheats for a long time and he's excellent at it, the capability of parsing multiple cheat files at runtime make it painless to use. I've included lots of Wayder's cheats in the past into the cheat file (I did ask)...only problems I have with some of his codes are his descriptions are a bit hard to understand and there's a lot of 'MLCs' plus there's a lit bit of duplication with the main cheat file.

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but have these cheat files ever been added to Pugsy's cheats?

And, do you have ShimaPong's cheat file? If so, could I please have it? He has disappeared and I hear that his cheat database was quite large. All the links to his cheat database, in the following thread, are dead: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2113

Whatever was publically released is probably already in the cheat file, either added at the time or found by others since. A cheat.dat file would be of little use now anyway as it would need converting into XML format.

I thought ShimaPong's codes were never included per his request. From what I read, he seemed like a real wacko who craved attention, as well as releasing cheat codes and files that are password protected. But I saw that a couple people obtained the password and his cheat code database were released on several emulation websites, but all the links I found were dead. I believe his cheat code database is titled "ShimaPong Extended Cheat" http://www.emu-france.com/news/11068-di ... eat-v0-15/

Yeah, he is/was a complete nutjob and no mistake.

If you look at the list of games and cheats on that emufrance link you posted you should find that every game + cheat mentioned is in the current cheat collection.
