The first two cheats freeze my game. but the rest work beautifully. Is there any way to remove the character sprites??

I cannot get MK3 Cheats to work with MAME
I'm using multiple versions of MAME and all the same problems. I'm trying to rip the backgrounds of MK3 (not the character sprites). These are the codes which I've found on this forum, but the only thing that even shows up in the cheats list is "remove bg" and it removes the entire backgro...
