Works fine in the latest 0.153 from the official mame site ( http://www.mamedev.org/release.html ). Which version+build are you using? I just downloaded the latest 0.153 64bit from the link you provided and I can't search for cheats either. Maybe some configuration difference... I can do searchs on...
