Added a Win the Tug of War Now! cheat as requested, also added a select starting stage cheat and a couple of other ROM cheats that can be quite useful but they can effect gameplay quite a bit (especially the Walk across Gaps cheat).
This game is still too hard even with these cheats....

I really am astonished now. I really thought this cheat request would prove too problematical to do.
To deliver the goods on this one realy shows your talent for this. To locate what is presumably an obscure address and then to manipulate it to yield the desired result without causing multiple defects elsewhere, well, that's quite a feat

Found a glitch, it's not important because you have blessed us with an excellent level select cheat. And by using it we can bypass the problem, but the second Tug-of-war challenge does not work.
you can delay your doom by activating the cheat (repeatedly pressing the enter key), but it's only holding up the inevitable.
Been using the other cheats and they're MARVELous (walking on air is rather cool)
But as you say, it is still a tough one to beat!
On the MAME board I'm going to challenge people to complete that escape from the castle using the full set of cheats. I've been trying and damn, I can't time my jumps for toffee!

Sorry I must have missed the second tug-of-war game (didn't realise there was more than one), like I say the game was rather hard and in the end I just used the level select cheat and even then I lost patience with the last level. It maybe possible to change the 40 in the tug of war cheat to something lower and make the cheat work on the 2nd tug of war game
The killer here is the swinging boat being submerged in lava in the middle, which calls for exact timing with little room for error. You have to use the upward swing of the boat as momentum to propel you up that passage.
But let's not forget Pugsy's cheats. We'd still be in world three right now without them
I've had a further look at the last level with some REALLY buggy screen height related cheats.....The game looks to be impossible, as if you manage by some fluke to get a massive jump off the swinging ship you'd jump directly into a gravity defying ceiling of lava!! Gits!

Finshed 'Marvel Land' well, sort of:-
this is the ending of Japan version, easy level. The game ends by making that leap upwards that we've described.
This may explain why there seems to be nowhere else to land once up there - THERE IS NO MORE GAME TO PLAY. It's meant to finish once you've made that last leap to 'freedom''
This cheat acts as a ratchet jump, use it in conjuction with Walk Across Gaps cheat and assign this cheat to an activation key. Then when you jump if you press the activation key quickly you will be at a higher Level so you can jump without platforms. Conversely, if you are free falling (not on a log) then pressing the activation key will halt the fall. BUT, to say the cheat is buggy is putting it mildly - causes massive and intermittent gfx corruption on the marvland set but seems to work fine on the marvlanj set. This cheat definitely won't be making it into the cheat file - the easy mode in marvlanj is completeable but the normal mode is NOT.

Update, seems I spoke too soon - just managed to complete the normal mode in marvlanj. No joy with the marvland game though - either it was always buggy, it's a bad dump or it's got emulation/protection issues to sort out. Judging by how hard the game is I'd go for the first of those.

I can manage to go to easy level 4-4 in 'marvlanj' only with the old "Invincibility" cheat (the one in 0.112 database), but I absolutely don't know what to do against the guy at the end of level (the rules are different than in 'marvland' and I don't read Japanese) ... Any hint is welcome as I always seem to lose and I must go back to the begining of this level ...

Could you, maybe, post a screen shot (or open a topic at MAMEWorld) ? In 'marvland' against King Mole it's a slot game. If your charater's pic comes up -- you should hit KM before he blocks... and vice versa.
This is similar to the 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' game in the Genesis/MegaDrive version.
I too made it 'up' to the thin horizontal line of lava... I'm pretty sure I didn't die. And I may have fell back down to the lava pit. I was using the dragon wings (which give you the jump height but not the ability stay aloft via flapping your wings - which might be a good cheat to add to this game -along with the shadows used for attacks).
About this game not having a correct or incomplete dump... I'm thinking this might be the problem since: Most of the stages have the same music and the last boss (when you fight him with the 3 crystal balls) there is no music.
If you the reels give you a win, press the buttons. If you lose, defend yourself by moving the joystick.

It's my belief that there is no further game to play, and what you're seeing is unmapped territory that is unplayable. The game should end when you make that last leap.
I beat the arcade version of Marvel Land a long time ago actually without cheats, though whenever I replay it I turn the cheats on. Well, except the unforgiving tug-of-war, I had to use rapid auto-fire for that.
I even made a site dedicated to the game: marvelland. vimscape. com (I can't seem to post a link version because I'm less than ten posts old). The ending can be seen somewhere on that site.
Cuckooguy, was the arcade 'Marvel Land' that you beat an emulation, or an original arcade machine AND IF SO how much did you spend on credits??
Looking at your site it's clear you have a love of the game. I like how the colours and design of the site match the game.
And can you confirm that the game ends at the point you launch yourself off the ship (in other words you don't land anywhere, the game cuts to the end sequence)?
