Emulator Cheats

I start 2007 new project called "Don't Believe Pugsy".
Pugsy sometimes likes "vague" management for the database.
I'm troubled with it so that I tried to fix wrong cheat format and even clearn up all codes.

Added Invincibility (ROM) for Player and Side Fighters. These codes use new function called "Program Space" accesor so that work after 0.111u1 or later.
Converted old Operation Selection to Starting Operation Selection
Commented out Enemy Rank Selection as debug code because it seems to be incomplete

Sounds an interesting project.....sign me up

You've said before that my cheat file management is fuzzy and I've agreed. Unfortunately if it wasn't I know the cheat file wouldn't be a large as it now and I would have given up long ago - testing cheats years ago would have been a full-time job. I can't always test submitted cheats so I know in the past I've done some quick tests and unless I couldn't understand some of the descriptions or it was missing cheats for other players or one of the cheats I tested failed then I generally added the cheats especially if it was from a trusted source. Though I tried to make sure things where set to the maximum I didn't always have enough time to do everything I needed to do. At the end of the day though, the vast majority of the cheats work as advertised!

If your main problem with me is that some of the Infinite cheats don't set things to the maximum values and the multipart cheats are not in address sorted order then I am not doing that bad a job after all! And I am always open to new ideas to generally improve the cheat file and Always happy to replace any cheats you are not happy with.....am i really that BAD?

On a side note as you've had a go, I've got a small gripe of my own. Can you please post cheats in the general order of the other cheats in the cheat file....you seem to love sticking Rapid Fire first and Invincibility before Lives & Energy which is not the order the cheat file uses..

Also you seem to think the size of the cheat file is to big yet you seem to be adding commented out comments like this

The problem is obviously this makes the cheat file even larger and as it's commented out it doesn't even display in the cheat menus....the question is do you think these commented out comment cheats should be

1. added 'as is'
2. changed so that they display in the menus
or
3. deleted completely?

付け加えれば、このフォーラムはオフィシャルへの追加を"前提としない"コードを投稿する場である。

さて、並び順に関して言えば、オフィシャル版自体が既に曖昧な定義の元に構築されている。
ことこれについては別段明確な取り決めもなく今までやってきたこと自体が問題と言えよう。
また、それをPugsyが厳しく定義している形跡も無く、あまつさえ当のPugsy自身が曖昧に並べるケースがある。
管理者たるPugsy自身がこの点をうやむやにしたままで"正式な"並びを要求するというのもおかしな話だろう。

That is not a very good explanation. If I understand you're statement correctly you are saying "Don't believe Pugsy as this is a work-in-progress section" which further baffles my understanding of you're statement.

I've sat here for the last couple of months watching Heihachi_73 look for and test new codes, and then spends the next 30-60mins making sure his submissions are clear concise and are generally ordered similarly to the rest of the database.
The reason I say this is simple, the DB offered from here is a collaborated community effort that is maintained by Pugsy. It's no different to open-source software (or anything really).

If you want to suggest changes to the way things are done, wouldn't it be much more mature to start a thread with you're ideas and allow people to collaborate over them and decide as a community whether the change should be implemented or not.
The way you went about it with this thread would be like a kick in the head to Pugsy (and others) as they do things like this in their spare time.

I have utmost respect for open-to-public projects, but I have very little respect for those who expect everything there and then and do nothing but complain if it doesn't happen.

Well that was a worthy first post .... lol I apologise to all for this little rant, but I saw this post while Heihachi_73 was browsing the forums. That and I've been to a lot of forums dedicated to open-source projects and see this kind of behaviour run rampant. With arrogance like this it's no wonder some projects become disbanded.
The invent of the internet seems to have superseded respect and morality.

Now i think hei_73 wants to go to Coles ... I suppose I better stop this rant

I can't understand twipsta'e English.
Please tell me with more easy English or Japanese.
But I know that twipsta NEVER undersands why this forum is "WIP".

投稿者はその点を前提にしてコードを投稿するのだから、それを裏切ることは管理者として問題があるだろう。
不完全なコードを何の検証も無く追加することは後々見直したときに問題が起こる。
実際、私はそういったコードに何度も直面して悩んでいる。
というのも、コード自体が不完全なのに何の情報も無いケースが多々あるからだ。
そういったものは削除すべきなのか、残しておくべきなのか、投稿者本人ではないからどうにも判断しかねる。
修正しようにも情報自体が無いため、どのようにすればいいのか困ることすらある。
何故Pugsyはそういったものを厳密にチェックせず追加するのか?
Pugsyの管理の甘さは今にはじまったことではないが、我々はそれを忘れていないだろうか?
我々は管理者としてのPugsyを信じすぎていないだろうか?
そのような意味も含めて"Don't believe Pugsy"を掲げた。

Fixed addresses for Invincibility, Life on rtype
Converted the codes from rtypepj to rtypejp
Made old "ON/OFF" invincibility codes into one with label-selection type
Made old "Always Have Max Beam" codes into one with 32-bit address size
Converted old Maximum Speed to new Speed Selection
Fixed weapon/item names based on the game magazine in those days

Over and over again I say, the above codes are WIP.
Rewriting has been finished but I have not finished strict test and lacked several "basic" codes so that incomplete.
I don't hope to add into the officail database.

And you know what know? Mate I know exactly what this board is ... WIP is an acronym for Work In Progress ... IE cheats that are not yet completed or are there for further testing before being added into the main database.

But seeing as my two posts in this section of the forum do not contain any cheats (WIP or otherwise) I have unfortunately strayed from the main scope of this section. I generally do not condone such practices, but mate someone needs to put you back in your place.
Every time I see a post you start bossing people around as if it is you're own project. From what I've seen you are nothing more than a very arrogant, stuck up, and immature person.

Oh and before you try and start calling me arrogant or what not for not knowing any language but English, I used to speak basic German and Indonesian

I also realise my little "flame" here is grounds for a ban, and would not argue if Pugsy where to do so. I just dislike people like ShimaPong ... Contributions are one thing ... etiquette is another

P.S: I have made every possible effort to make sure this post is as grammatically correct as possible, and even ran a spell check over it just to be certain.
This will also be my last post in this section as I do not have the know-how to make cheats ... This does not mean I concede to you ShimaPong, it just means that I've got better things to waste my time with.

Shima knows exactly what "WIP" means. That's why he was upset with Pugsy for adding them so soon. Unless you were referring to Pugsy.

Shima is very particular about a lot of things... He's a perfectionist. But he shouldn't expect the same standard from everyone else. Everyone he has 'flamed' could easily come back and make fun of his English. But that would just be cheap. So why should he do the same to those that don't know the cheat engine as well as he does? That would only be cheap.

But lately I have noticed he has tried to correct some people that post New cheats. I'm glad he is doing this... But I don't think he gives newbs too many chances. For instance; if they just ask without posting any of their findings -which they usually don't, then comes the scolding. Shima can respond to these types of posts in a better way - without angering the person asking the question. We all know he needs to work on this. So... Perfection... or as close as any of us can possibly get to it -- takes time.

And if Shima's attitude bothers you.... Well, tough poop! I had to go into work 3 hours early last night with only 4 hours of sleep prior - because the guy working the 3-11 shifts' Girlfriend was in a car wreck. Some things you just can't help - so you have to go on and DEAL with it. Oh yeah... I've learned that scolding people has very little impact on changing them. So the best thing you can do is ignore them. ....But every once in a while you just can't help but to make your feelings known. There's nothing wrong with that. Just don't resort to cheap/low tactics, and never bite any flame bait. You'll be the sucker for doing so.

I've said (similar) in the past. Shima just needs to remember the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you. Everyone just wants a little respect, to be given a chance (to do right), and to be treated fairly. And whatever reason Shima Pong has for being so strict... I don't really care. I mean, with you. You should've put in *shakes fist and glares evily at Shima Pong* at the end there. I think it would've given it a more hilarious flare.

Finding cheats is usually a good way to waste your time (epsecially when you never find anything good).

Or, if anything, you could learn how to find some cheats and then your 'strayed post content' could be rectified.

I am also worried about this 'Don't trust Pugsy' business. Is it because Pugsy is adding cheats that (although they still work) aren't in the correct order by the address?

I will probably lock the entire WIP forum, I added the forum so others could post cheats and get some pointers without being slated. As it never worked like that it's probably time to close it...and you don't want pointers and your cheats are not THAT buggy so I don't understand why you were using the WIP forum to start with. If you are NOT happy with any of your cheats please only post them when you ARE happy with them.

I'd say I'm sorry (again) but honestly I couldn't give a flying fig anymore, the thing I am sorry about is that you obviously have a problem with me and pretty much everybody else and whatever I say or do will have no effect on that.

Yeah I could of worded myself a bit better. I was not trying to take a cheap shot at his english, at least he attempts it. Tho reading it does make me giggle like a school girl occasionally.

And man that guy must of p##s you right off. I know it did to me when similar circumstances have arrived (Eg: Pulling almost 24hr shifts because the boss wanted to go home during an all-nighter. This was at a LAN cafe.) I've actually passed out inside a customers computer due to sleep deprivation. Lucky I was woken up before the drool hit the motherboard lol.

And you're right. I did kind of take this personally without merit and should have just let it go.

I do also realise that ShimaPong is a great contributor.

Anyways ... I think hei_73 wants to teach me how to use the cheat system ... All those numbers confuse the living hell out of me lol. Give me a programming language style cheat system and I'd be all over it like ants at a picnic.

And lastly - Pugsy, please don't close the WIP section. It is a good idea. We all just need to learn what it's really for and use it as such

So .... whats a good system to start learning how to find cheats? I'm sure I can get my head around it if I tried. I mean I used to "hack" my NFS:U2 save games by using the compare function in HexWorkshop. Only simple things tho like money, and I think I even tried to edit the "Impounded" count.

Over and over again, my cheat codes are incomplete and even lacks of several basic cheats.
It SEEMS to work but I can't make a declaration of "COMPLETE".
Pugsy, have you repeated for checking a code over and over again ?
Potential bug is not presented if test once.
I have repeated for testing a code in my database and found a bug even if it has worked in previous check.
Pugsy, have you checked again the codes in the database ?
Therefore I can't understand why Pugsy says "NOT BUGGY".

Yes, my cheat is forever WIP and I have bothered it forever and ever.
Pugsy seems to make light of it but it is too important for me.
Also I have rebuild my database over and over again because I can't be satisfied.

Pugsy gave us this WIP forum where had the basic rule as NOT added into the database.
This is the best place for me to post a code.
But if Pugsy hopes to close it, I don't stop you and you must refuse my giggle.
We are not a maintener for the database and home page.
