Emulator Cheats

Hi,

Now that MAME is emulating PC Engine games like Blazing Lazers.. Wil there hopefully be cheats for them? I ask because I used to be able to cheat with Magic Engine but the new versions have no cheat engine anymore.

PC Engine games have been working in MESS for some time (I've made a small number of cheats - but a few lines don't make a proper cheat file)....problem is the lack of people interested in doing MESS cheat files. It's a big job and RAM cheat finding from scratch for a big system can't be VERY boring.

Is there any way you can start a thread here on this site to house cheats for the Magic Engine Turbo Grafx emulator? The new version has a cheat.dat similar to mame.

VisitntX has already created a bunch of cheats for Magic Engine an Mednafen, you will find his threads over on gshi.

I've had a look at the cheats, and it's possible to make a quick MESS TG16/PCE cheat file based on these cheats.

Pugsy if you need help doing the cheat file tell me and I will start to post the codes for MESS here.
I watched the cheat engine for PC-Engine that MESS has and it uses the same directions as Mednafen, I can post the codes the way MESS uses them here, I have to add to the ones I did with mednafen some invincibilities I did for ME.

I've made the initial cheat file, it's quite possible that I've made some cut and paste errors here and there. If you spot any mistakes or have any extra cheats to add let me know..

I've made the cheat file exclusively for the TG16 driver rather than the PCE driver simply because the TG16 supports games from ALL regions whilst the PCE in the main I believe was region locked to Japan.

As the cheat file skeleton for it is complete and it's got some flesh on it's bones to start it should be a simple matter of adding new cheats into the appropriate places. I don't really have the time to maintain this new file...are you willing?

Yes the PCE driver seems to be locked to japan only, can't run other games.
I will try to do my best to maintain this file. Downloaded and I will start the revision and adding tonight.

It's not the driver that's locked though, the actual PC Engine was locked to Japan, and the TG16 was region free.

Forgot to mention I've added the TG16 file to a new page "MESS & Related Cheat Files" from the side menu (I really need to modernise the pages (maybe next year ..). I'll hold fire on any more MESS files till the cheat engine issues have been resolved.

I really like the pages as they are. Simple and fast, and also well organized. Heh.
I have to start to look more into the cheats and convert the values to match ME, as the mednafen values for invincibility often made the characters invisible in MESS, switching to ME they work great.

Ok, I will start to experiment with the workaround for WP. Then I will fix some values and addresses at the cheat file. I think that in the run of this and the next week should have more news about this.

Checked the file up to the letter I. Added some invincibilities, fixed a couple of them, added Pugsy's invincibility for Daimakaimura.

The only problem is that I couldn't test that much the Air Zonk invincibility because the game freezes if you push a button.
