I know this might sound stupid, but is there a way to change all the cheats in the new mame(0.59) from the cheat.dat(ex. captav19 to captavnu) without doing it by hand one at a time in wordpad, or am I just stupid enough not to know how? Or is there a way to transfer them without all the hastle? Thanks :D

You either do a find and replace (there is better text editors than wordpad with more advanced find and replace functions) or you wait for the next cheat file release....if Pugsy ever get's his thumb out of his ar53 :o

NOTE: The example you give will work as a straightforward rename but other games and their clones may well have different locations.

Examples of games that will require changing the locations in memory when copying cheats for a parent onto a clone: not many, but it seems that for Williams games (like mk2) that the locations are offset by a certain constant amount.

However, for most games (like CPS2 games) fiddling with the locations is unnecessary.
