Missing Cheats

Post by ultimatepump »

Hello,

I cannot understand why when I used earlier releases of the MAME cheats, there were more available then now. For instance Smash TV. I used to be able to be invincible but now my only choice is infinite lives.

I have checked the cheat files for all versions of Smash TV and the only file that does not have the invincibility cheat is smashtv3.xml. The rest of the files for smashtv.xml, smashtv4.xml, smashtv5.xml and smashtv6.xml do contain the invincible cheat. I recommend that you download one of the versions of Smash TV that works with one of the cheat files that has the invincible option, like Smash T.V. (rev 8.00) smashtv.zip or Smash T.V. (rev 5.00) smashtv5.zip for example.

Very strange. I looked at the xml and see the cheats. I checked my roms and they are named correctly but refuse to show the cheats that are in the xml inside the 7z

Oh, If it matters, I'm using the most current MAME split set.

Open the game's cheat xml file with a text editor and check if there are any lines of code that start with "user1" and replace "user1" with "maincpu" to see if that works or if it says "maincpu" replace "maincpu" with "user1". Don't forget to make a copy of the cheat file before changing it just in case. If none of that works, as a last resort extract the smash tv xml cheat file from the older MAME cheat file version that you said worked earlier and paste it into the cheats folder of MAME.

No good. It made no difference. All the cheats are listed in the xml but only infinite lives p1 p2 are choices. I don't get it. I tried in retroarch and mame4droid

Which version of mame4droid and SmashTV are you using? I tested Smash T.V. (rev 8.00) in mame4droid 1.14, 1.15 and 1.16 and the cheats list works fine.

Try MAME4droid 1.16.9. Is the last version before they change to x64. Its in the playstore.

You seem to only see ROM cheats and not the RAM ones. Maybe MAME4droid doesn't support newer plugin/cheat engine.

First, thanks for helping. I actually don't like mame 4 Droid anymore. I have been using Retroarch. It's the latest nightly 64 bit. The roms are split from pleasuredome. Doesn't make sense.

I have been messing with the xml of smashtv and still cannot get the other cheats to show on the latest MAME core in Retroarch? Anyone else?

Yes, you will see error message in loading cheat database, "error parsing cheat expression (unknown symbol)" (Tested on official MAME 0.272).
"user1" was replaced with "maindata" in 0.265.
All midyunit.cpp games are affected.

So you need to update smashtv.xml by yourself or wait for next official cheat release.

Version 0.271 also renamed a bunch of clone ROMs, and now the cheats for said ROMs won't load (e.g. ftglayerj was renamed fgtlayerja). Renaming the XML within cheat.7z doesn't fix this.
